Art of Disability Festival
Since 2012, ILNS has hosted the Art of Disability Festival to showcase several talented artists with disabilities. The event highlights all aspects of the arts from fine art to performance art and everything in between. Over the years, the number of artists that participate in this festival has grown to include approximately 40 individuals. This event is a day of sharing, learning and celebrating the diverse talents in the community.
Christmas Gala and Dance
After over two decades, our Christmas Gala is still the most anticipated event of the year with more than a hundred and twenty individuals coming together to share the spirit of the season. During this holiday season many ILNS consumers will enjoy our Christmas Gala and Dance surrounded by family, peers, and advocates. This event includes a traditional three-course meal, a visit from Santa and dancing to finish off the evening.
Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon
Over the span of six years, ILNS has fundraised approximately $30,000 through the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon. This is only possible through our dedicated runners, walkers, wheelers, donators, and our very own Randy Reede who not only coordinates the ILNS team every year, but who also successfully completed the five kilometre marathon portion in 2013 and 2012. Thank you to everyone who has participated including the Global Wheelchair Athletics.
Grace on a Bike (The Sarah Dube Memorial)
In 2017, Grace McNee cycled across Canada specifically raising funds for ILNS in loving memory of her friend Sarah Dube, who was a strong believer in independent living and who was also the chair on ILNS' Board of Directors. Grace started in British Columbia and traveled all the way to Newfoundland, raising more than $16,000. For more information on Grace's journey: www.graceonabike.wordpress.com
